Konstantinos Tsakalidis was born in 1986 in Serres, Greece. He graduated from the Department of Informatics of Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki and from the Stereosis School of Photography. He is a freelance photojournalist based in Thessaloniki, Greece. 


He documented the Greek crisis related issues since 2011 as well as the 2015 Greek bailout referendum. In 2015-2016 he documented the route of thousands of refugees from the islands of the eastern Aegean Sea to central Europe through the Balkan countries, as well as their life in the improvised camp of Idomeni at the Greek – North Macedonia borders. In August 2021 assigned from Bloomberg News to cover the wildfires in Athens and Evia island.


With his photo from the wildfires in Evia, recognized as World Press Photo 2022 Singles category Europe regional winner, 79th POYi Spot News Second Finalist and was featured in TIME magazine cover as one of the ten best photographs of the year.


Tsakalidis currently is a co-founder member of the collective Greek photo agency SOOC Images and contributor for Bloomberg News in Northern Greece since 2013, covering breaking news, social and political issues with a focus on Greece, Eastern Europe and Turkey.



Member of the Greek Photojournalist Association.


Based in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece.
